Crossing The Minefield One Widow Journey Melinda Richarz Lyons 9781617521300 Books Reviews

Crossing the Minefield is a handbook for anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one. It is a non-fiction account of the author's experience with the sudden death of her husband. One day he simply didn't wake up. This is my personal worst nightmare, so I was very moved by her story.

The author is a Baby Boomer from Texas. Her husband was only 56 when he passed away. She didn't expect this to happen, naturally, and she soon came to realize how her life was going to change dramatically from that point on. She was now going to have to do the things her husband used to do, besides pick up the pieces of her life to carry on. As the title suggests, the struggle with grief is like a minefield, you never know when something will trigger a memory that causes an explosion of emotion.

The book was well-organized and told the story in a chronological order the steps and stages that occur when recovering from such a horrible shock as experienced by the author. It will be helpful to anyone who has lost someone, especially when it was unexpected. When we lose a loved one after a long illness, it is still very sad, but a sudden shock such as she experienced must be unimaginably harsh.

This concise memoir is very compelling. It portrays how the author felt at each stage of her recovery from grief, and that there will be setbacks, i.e. "minefields" that seem insurmountable but gradually come less often. I will keep this book for my own personal use, should I ever need it. What I take away from this book is that though it looks like it will never happen, eventually there is "live after death."

Disclosure of Material Connection I received a physical copy of this book free from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255 "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising."
This book was very helpful to me at this awful time in my life. It helped me realize that I was not going crazy with some of my thoughts and feelings.
Absolutely an excellent representation of what one experiences from the death of a loved one.
Excellently written and a help for anyone that has lost a spouse. A great gift for those grieving... AIt helps to know someone else has been there.
I felt this book and author were reading my mind and emotions today even though written several years ago!. I am recent younger widow going through all the stages and experiencing "exploding mines" right now and found some comfort from reading this book. This book is a must read for men and women who have lost a loved one
Read this & loved it! I hadnt lost my husband by death like the author, but I lost mine due to a divorce & it help me to realize that I went through alot of the same emotions. a good book to read it helps you understand the stages of healing.
My dad died at the end of September, right after that I read a review on this book. I read a sample of it and then bought a copy for my stepmom. She called me after receiving it and said that she read it cover to cover in one sitting. She told me it was very helpful to read about someone who had been there, even though the author was farther along in her grief process. A big thank you to the author for taking the time to share her story.
